Where to begin making your VCV

• Start by introducing yourself and a quick explanation on why you have chosen to submit your CV in video form.

• Explain why you want the job you are applying for and what you could bring to the table.

• It helps to have a structured beginning, middle and end, as if you were telling a story.

• During the recording, make sure you give off positive body language and a cheery disposition, this is your moment to really show off your personality as well as your skills.

Guide to a great video CV

A shaky mobile phone recording might not be the best option

Before you do anything, make sure you have accessibility to decent filming and editing equipment. A shaky mobile phone recording might not be the best option if you want your VCV to look professional, so opt for HD filming. If you do not have access to any filming equipment, you can see our VCV service below to view our options.

First impressions count

You should always make sure you dress appropriately in your VCV, wear what you would wear if you were going to an interview. Remember that this is the very first impression you will be making and your clothes could be a deciding factor on your employment.

Know what to say, but don’t sound like a robot

Write notes or a script you can go over and practice the main points you want to make before you start. However, try to keep your head up and make eye contact with the camera and do not just read from the script. Try not to do anything you would not do in an interview. If you are not sure where to start and would like help with writing a script, see our script writing service below.
